Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre was presented with the Buford Pusser National Law Enforcement Law Officer of the Year Award on Saturday, May 16. The award presentation was held in conjunction with the 27th Annual Sheriff Buford Pusser Festival in Adamsville, Tennessee, held annually during National Police Week. Robert Ellis, Chief of Police for the City of Humboldt in Tennessee, was the Local Law Enforcement Award winner. Dwana Pusser, daughter of the late Sheriff Buford Pusser, presented the awards.

Sheriff Webre expressed gratitude to Ms. Dwana Pusser for her commitment and passion on behalf of all law enforcement, as well as to the McNairy County officials and the Adamsville city officials for their exceptional hospitality. Sheriff Webre said he was particularly impressed with Mr. Jack Koffman, a close personal friend of Sheriff Pusser, who gave great insight into his life and legacy, as well as Mr. Steve Sweat, a local businessman and Buford Pusser historian. “These two gentlemen were extraordinarily generous with their time and graciously shared their knowledge of the events surrounding Sheriff Pusser’s life,” said Sheriff Webre.

Making the most of his trip, Sheriff Webre also participated in the 27th Annual Memorial 5K Run prior to the award presentation and placed first in his age category. “The festival was an experience that I will cherish for years to come,” said Sheriff Webre. “I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity in the future to consider attending the festival and pay a visit to the museum.”
